The Rally of the Giants

Blenheim Palace     Sunday 27th July 2014

What a super day at the 49th Rally of the Giants at Blenheim Palace.  The great cars, warm sunny weather and big crowds really do make this the BEST AMERICAN CAR SHOW IN THE UK.

Adam Alexander, the club Treasurer says…  the numbers speak for themselves. We had more cars and more visitors than last year, which was already a bigger show than our first at Blenheim in 2012. So, people wanted to come and I believe everyone enjoyed the chilled out and laid-back vibe of the rally, which makes it unique in the UK. Not only that, there were more rare, unusual and fascinating classic cars than can be seen at any other American car show in the UK.

So it’s a big Thank You from the Pre50AAC to everyone who brought their car along to the Giants this year and made it such a memorable occasion.

The smooth running of the Rally of the Giants is in large part due to the many volunteers who gave their time on the day.  On the organisation side of things, it’s thanks to:

Yvonne Arnott who was the stalwart presence on the book stand. She was ably assisted by Chris Sanders and Colin Tait, (when he wasn’t being a parking attendant) who gave up most of their day to provide support where needed. The lovely Marise Bickford was on hand to keep us and the punters entertained with her book-sales patter. Brilliant!

A huge thanks too to Julia Alexander who co-ordinated the entry point for show cars and made sure everyone paid and to catch scammers – fortunately only very few. Young Morgan Dobbin was there to hand out programmes, and thanks too to his brother Rydian, who was the club ‘Goffer’, always on hand to run errands, help out on the book stand and be where he was needed.

Roger Huyton filmed the day, ably assisted by Yowen Dobbin and his work should be on the website very soon.

Also, we couldn’t have coped early on without the fantastic support of our two American volunteers, Peggy Rosenberg who helped get the book stall up and running and her husband Jack who co-ordinated parking on the field. And we must not forget Sandra Toogood who single-handedly this year dealt with all the entries.

Finally, if we have left you out, please forgive us. we really are appreciative of your contribution to the Rally’s success.

Don’t forget next year will be the 50th Rally of the Giants, it’ll be over two days Saturday 25th and  Sunday 26th July 2015. Get the dates in your calendar now.
